Tailored Medications for Every Animal, Every Size

From family pets to farm herds to wildlife, Nanogram Pharmacy is Saskatchewan's veterinary compounding pharmacy — formulating the medications your animal needs, in the form they will actually accept.

When Commercial Medications Don't Work for Your Animal

Animals come in every size, species, and temperament. Commercial medications are produced for a narrow slice of that spectrum. When your patient falls outside it — because the dose doesn't exist commercially, the product is on national backorder, the animal refuses oral medication, or the brand-name product is simply not available in Canada — compounding fills the gap.

Nanogram Pharmacy is a veterinary compounding pharmacy in Saskatoon, certified by the Saskatchewan College of Pharmacy Professionals for all levels of non-sterile compounding. We formulate custom pet medications and large animal preparations for companion animals, production animals, exotics, wildlife, and zoo animals, pursuant to a valid veterinary prescription.

If your dog won't take pills, we can compound the same medication as a flavoured chew or liquid. If your cat refuses oral medication, a transdermal gel applied to the ear flap may be the answer. If the medication your veterinarian prescribed is backordered or discontinued, contact us — we may be able to compound an equivalent. We deliver Canada-wide to pet owners, veterinary clinics, and farms across Saskatchewan and beyond.

Species We Compound For

Companion Animals

Dogs, cats, rabbits, guinea pigs, ferrets, and other household pets. We compound flavoured liquids, chewable treats, transdermal gels, capsules, and ear preparations — whatever makes medicating your pet practical.

Exotic & Zoo Animals

Non-standard species require non-standard doses. We compound for reptiles, birds, primates, and other exotic or zoo animals on veterinary prescription.

Equine & Large Animals

Custom formulations in appropriate strengths and volumes for horses, donkeys, and other large animals where commercial dosing is impractical or the product is unavailable in Canada.

Wildlife & Rehabilitation

Wildlife rehabilitation centres and wildlife veterinarians can access compounded medications for injured or endangered animals under their care.

 Livestock & Herds

We compound for cattle, swine, sheep, goats, and poultry operations across Saskatchewan, working directly with farm veterinarians and producers. Farmers can have prescriptions sent directly from their vet to our pharmacy.

Humane Society & Rescue

We are proud to support animal rescue and shelter organizations with affordable, flexible compounded solutions for the animals in their care.

How We Deliver Medication

Flavoured Liquids & Suspensions

Over 40 flavour options including chicken, beef, tuna, bacon, liver, and bubblegum. Ideal for pets who refuse solid dosage forms.

Transdermal Ear Gels

Applied to the inner ear flap for absorption through the skin. The go-to solution when a cat or other animal simply will not accept oral medication. Methimazole is one of the most commonly requested transdermal preparations for cats.

Capsules & Tablets

Custom-dose capsules and tablets in sizes appropriate for the animal, including combinations of multiple active ingredients in a single preparation when prescribed.

Flavoured Chews & Treats

Soft chew or treat formulations that disguise the medication completely. Especially effective for dogs that pick tablets out of food and leave them behind.

Oral Liquids for Large Animals

High-concentration liquid formulations in volumes appropriate for horses, livestock, and large exotic animals, formulated to the veterinarian's prescribed dose.

FAQs

My cat won't take oral medication. What can you do?

1

This is one of the most common reasons pet owners and veterinarians contact us. For cats that refuse oral medication, we can often compound the same drug as a transdermal gel applied to the inner ear flap. The medication is absorbed through the skin, so no pilling is required. Methimazole (for hyperthyroidism) is the most frequently requested transdermal preparation for cats, but many other medications can also be formulated this way. Contact us with your cat's prescription and we will advise on whether a transdermal option is available.

My dog won't take pills. Can you make the medication in a different form?

2

Absolutely. We can compound most oral dog medications as flavoured liquids, flavoured chews, or soft treats in over 40 flavour options including chicken, beef, bacon, and liver. If the medication is suitable for a chewable formulation, dogs often take it willingly without any effort. Ask your veterinarian to specify a flavoured compound on the prescription, or contact us and we will coordinate with your vet's clinic.

Can you compound Vetmedin (pimobendan) or Vetoryl (trilostane) in a different strength?

3

Yes. Pimobendan (Vetmedin) and trilostane (Vetoryl) are among the most commonly compounded cardiac and endocrine medications for dogs. Commercial products come in fixed strengths that may not match your dog's weight-based dose precisely. We compound both in custom strengths as capsules, ensuring your dog receives the exact dose your veterinarian prescribed. A valid prescription from your vet is required.

Is cisapride available anywhere? My vet prescribed it and I cannot find it.

4

Cisapride was withdrawn from commercial markets years ago and is no longer available as a commercial product. Compounding is now the primary way veterinarians can prescribe it. We regularly compound cisapride for cats and small animals with GI motility disorders. If your veterinarian has prescribed cisapride, contact us directly — a valid veterinary prescription is all we need to get started.

Can you make a transdermal mirtazapine gel for my cat? The Mirataz brand isn't available.

5

Yes. Mirtazapine transdermal gel (sold commercially as Mirataz) is used as an appetite stimulant for cats. We regularly compound transdermal mirtazapine in gel form, applied to the inner ear flap. If Mirataz is unavailable or backordered in your area, your veterinarian can write a prescription for a compounded mirtazapine transdermal gel and we can prepare it for you. Canada-wide delivery is available.

My pet's medication is on national backorder. Can you compound it?

6

Many commercially available veterinary medications are subject to national shortages and backorders in Canada. For medications within our non-sterile compounding scope, we may be able to compound an equivalent formulation using Health Canada approved active pharmaceutical ingredients, pursuant to a valid veterinary prescription. Contact us with the medication name and we will advise quickly on whether we can help. We also have a dedicated Backordered Medications page with more information.

Do you compound medications for livestock and farm animals in Saskatchewan?

7

Yes. We compound for cattle, swine, sheep, goats, poultry, and other production animals. Farmers can have prescriptions sent directly from their veterinarian to our pharmacy. We offer Canada-wide delivery, which makes us a practical option for rural Saskatchewan producers who need compounded veterinary medications without traveling to the city.

Is compounded veterinary medication covered by insurance?

8

Most pet insurance policies focus on veterinary service costs rather than medication costs, but coverage varies. We recommend checking with your insurer. We can provide receipts and documentation for any reimbursement claim.

How do I get started? Do I need to call ahead?

9

No need to call ahead - simply have your veterinarian send us the prescription by fax or through our online form, and we will reach out to confirm the details. If you have questions before submitting, our team is available by phone, fax, email, or in person at our Saskatoon location.
